Time-to-Completion
Incoming M.A. students have the same expected time to completion as students who enter our program with an MA. All students who satisfy our minimum grade average for the first year are eligible to take our comprehensive exams in the summer after the first year. All students who pass these exams are automatically admitted to the Ph.D. program and continue with our second year of Ph.D. courses. Thus, entering our Ph.D. stream M.A. program allows a student to finish a Ph.D. faster than if he/she enters a terminal M.A. program.
