Department Meeting - Reminder

The first Department Meeting for the Academic Year 2008-2009 will be held on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 4:00 p.m., in Room 4161. All faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Economics Annual Fall Party

The Economics Annual Fall Party will be held at the Elsie Perrin Williams Estate on Thursday, September 18, 2008. Cocktails will begin at 5:00 p.m. with dinner at 6:00 p.m. Please drop off your advance payment of $10 per person in the Economics main office (SSC 4071) by Tuesday, September 16th. Children under 14, new graduate students, new faculty members and their families are not required to pay, but we would appreciate your letting us know if you plan to attend.

All faculty, graduate students, staff and their families are welcome!

Social Science Council Meetings

Meetings of the Social Science Council are held on the second Tuesday of every other month from October to April in Room 9420 SSC. Regular Full-Time Faculty Members only are invited to attend. Please put the following dates in your calendars:

  • Tuesday, October 14, 2008, 12:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, December 9, 2008, 4:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, February 10, 2009, 12:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 14, 2009, 4:00 p.m.

Fall 2008 Nominations for University Committees

The University Secretariat is making its annual request for your attention to the following positions which are coming available this fall:

  • Board of Governors and Senate Elections
    Board of Governors positions available: 1 undergraduate student member and 1 member of the administrative staff.
    Senate positions available: 24 faculty members and 1 member of the administrative staff.

    Nominations open on Friday, September 12, 2008 and close at 4:00 p.m. September 25, 2008.

    There are 2 positions available for a member of the General Community to serve on Senate: Call for Nominations


  • Senate Committee Membership
    Invitation for nominations for membership on Senate Committees. Nominations must be received by Thursday, September 25, 2008.

Canadian Economics Employment Exchange (CEEE)

The Canadian Economics Employment Exchange will take place on December 5-6, 2008 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. The purpose of the CEEE is to facilitate the search of Canadian PhD candidates who are seeking employment and of the Canadian organizations who may be interested in hiring these candidates.

Allied Social Science Association (ASSA) Annual Meetings

The 2009 Annual Convention of the ASSA has been scheduled for January 3-5, 2009 in San Francisco, CA. The headquarters hotel is the Hilton San Francisco. Program information as well as information on hotels (i.e. prices and places to stay) is available here or in the Main Office.
