Professor Emeritus Michael Parkin Receives Honorary
Degree at University of Leicester
Professor Emeritus Michael Parkin will receive the honorary degree
of Doctor of Letters from the University of Leicester, Friday, January
22, 2010. Professor Parkin studied economics at Leicester from
1960-1963 and held appointments at the Universities of Sheffield,
Leicester, Essex and Manchester before joining the Economics
Department at UWO in 1975. In addition to his visiting appointments at
Brown, Stanford and the Hoover Institution in the U.S., Professor
Parkin has also held visiting posts in Australia, New Zealand, India
and Japan. He is the author of Economics and Foundations of Economics,
two of the best-selling introductory texts in economics that are
published in dozens of editions and languages around the world, and
has published over 160 journal articles and edited volumes. Professor
Parkin still teaches a very popular introductory economics course,
Principles of Microeconomics, here at Western.
Fellowship in Teaching Innovation - Call for 2010 Applications
The purpose of the
Fellowship
in Teaching Innovation is to encourage full-time faculty members to
pursue teaching innovations at Western. Teaching innovation projects may
take many forms, such as initiatives involving the novel incorporation of
educational technology into classroom settings or developing new directions
for large group learning. The deadline for submission of applications for
this $10,000 award is
March 1, 2010.
Alumni Awards of Merit 2010 - Call for Nominations
Nominate an outstanding Western alumna or alumnus for a
prestigious
Alumni
Award of Merit. Western's Alumni Association offers this annual
awards program to recognize alumni who have made outstanding
contributions to their professions or communities. The awards will
be presented during Homecoming weekend. The deadline for
nominations is Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
Canadian Women Economists Network (CWEN) Young Researcher
Prize - Call for Nominations
Beginning in 2010, CWEN will award the
Young Researcher Prize,
worth $1,0000, every two years. The Prize is intended to recognize
research excellence by young women economists. The inaugural award
will be presented at the CEA Meetings in Quebec City. The deadline for
nominations is January 31, 2010.
Canadian Economics Association (CEA) Annual Meeting - Call for Papers
The 44th Annual Meeting of the
CEA will be held at the Petit Séminaire de
Québec in Québec
City, May 28-30, 2010 with some sessions of affiliated organizations on
Thursday, May 27, 2010. The Canadian Economics Association would like
to invite anyone wishing to present a paper at the 2010 Conference to
submit an abstract by Friday, February 19, 2010.

Meeting - Call for Submissions
The 2010 Annual
Meeting of the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society will be
held jointly with the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association and
the Western Agricultural Economics Association in Denver, Colorado,
July 25-27, 2010. The deadline for submissions is
January 18, 2010.
EcoMod 2010 International Conference on Economic Modelling -
Call for Papers
EcoMod2010
International Conference on Economic Modelling, hosted by Istanbul
Bilgi University, will take place In Istanbul, Turkey, on July 7-10, 2010.
The goal of the conference is to promote the exchange of ideas among
economists conducting quantitative analysis for policy and
decision-making in the public and private sector and will cover all
areas of applied modelling in economics. The deadline for submission of abstracts is
January 31, 2010.
