Dean's Office - Annual Gathering

All Social Science faculty and staff are invited to join the Dean for the faculty’s annual start of a new year gathering and get ready for Homecoming on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 3:30 pm, Room 3036 SSC. Free refreshments and food.

Classroom Management Group - Information for Instructors

The Classroom Management Group website contains useful information such as interactive pictures of classrooms in various buildings and instructions on the use of AV equipment.

Fall Convocation - Volunteers Needed

Social Science convocation will be the afternoon of Friday, October 29th at 3:30 pm.

Volunteers are required for the following roles:

  • 4 Hooders: should be members of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, as well as members of the graduating Faculty and may be full-time or part-time faculty members
  • 1 Assistant Marshall: may be full-time or part-time faculty members
  • 3 Orators: may be full-time or part-time faculty members and should be reasonably well known to the members of the graduating class. Orators should have a clear, strong, confident speaking voice that will be understood by members of the audience
  • 12 Ushers: may be members of either faculty or staff

Hooders, Assistant Marshals, and Orators must be available for duties commencing at 2:15 pm in room 15, Alumni Hall on October 29th. Ushers must be available at 1:30 pm in the front foyer of Alumni Hall.

Volunteers should let Jennifer Chambers or Jeremy know as soon as possible what s/he is volunteering to do.

Board of Governors - 2010 Fall Nominations for Membership

Elections for membership on the Board of Governors will take place on October 5 and 6, 2010. Nominations for membership in the faculty and administrative staff constituencies will be accepted until 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 23, 2010.

Allied Social Science Association (ASSA) Annual Meetings

The 2011 Annual Convention of the ASSA has been scheduled for January 7-9, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. The headquarters hotel is the Sheraton Denver Downtown. Program information as well as information on hotels is available here or in the Main Office. Registration will open Tuesday, September 21st.

Bank of Canada Fellowship Program - Invitation to Nominate

The Bank of Canada Fellowship Program has been established to encourage leading edge research and to develop expertise in Canada in a number of areas critical to the Bank's mandate: macroeconomics, monetary economics, international finance, financial markets and institutions.

There are two awards available for academics working at Canadian Universities:

The application deadline for both awards is November 15, 2010.

2010 Business & Economics Society International Conferences - Call for Papers

The 2011 Business & Economics Society International Conferences will be held:

  • January 11-14, 2011 at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Submission deadline September 30, 2010.
  • July 6-9, 2010 at Le Meridien Lav Hotel, Split, Croatia. Submission deadline March 15, 2011.

These conferences welcome academics (business/economics professors and administrators), as well as corporation / government executives and economists.
