Statutory Holiday - Labour Day

The University will be closed on Monday, September 6, 2010 for Labour Day.

Department Meeting

The first Department Meeting for the Academic Year 2010-2011 will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. in Room 4161. All faculty and staff are invited to attend. Please mark this date on your calendar.

2010 Polyani Prize Winner

Congratulations to Ben Lester on being one of five 2010 John Charles Polyani Prize winners.

These prizes were first awarded by the Government of Ontario in 1987, in honour of the achievement of Dr. John Charles Polyani who received the 1986 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The Polyani Prize recognizes the excellence and potential of Lester's research in Economics.

An awards ceremony will be held in Toronto in November 2010.

Social Science Dean's Office Faculty/Staff Party

Canada Research Chair Speaker Series 2010-2011

Dr. Joy Parr, Canada Research Chair in Technology, Culture and Risk will present "Varieties of Witnessing: Practicing Oral History Amidst Conflict" on Friday, September 24, 2010, 2:00-3:00 pm in Room 9420 Social Science Centre (Dean's Office Suite). The talk will be followed by a reception from 3:00-4:00 pm. Seating is limited so please RSVP to Erin Huner by Monday, September 20, 2010.

ATINER 4th International City Break Conference - Call for Papers

Academics and researchers are invited for a cross-disciplinary International City Break Conference in Athens, Greece on December 20-23, 2010. This conference, hosted by the Athens Institute for Education and Research (ATINER), aims to give an opportunity to academics and researchers to present their work to other academics and researchers of different disciplines. The deadline for submission of abstracts is September 17, 2010.

14th IZA European Summer School in Labor Economics

The Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) will hold its 14th Summer School in Labor Economics on May 16-22, 2011 at the conference center of Deutsche Post at the Ammersee Lake (near Munich) in Bavaria, Germany. The objective of the Summer School is to bring together a large number of PhD students and senior lecturers to study new areas in labor economics and to discuss their own research ideas. Applications to participate should be submitted by January 29, 2011.
