Campus Safety Improvements

In an effort to improve campus safety, Western will be installing an outdoor siren on the roof of Alumni Hall to indicate severe weather. Installation is expected to be completed by August. The siren is only for severe weather and will be activated to alert persons outdoors to find immediate shelter indoors. The outdoor siren will indicate with a tone followed by a pre taped message identifying the nature of the warning. Once the threat is no longer present a different tone will indicate an all clear.

3M Teaching Fellowships - Call for Nominations

The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and 3M Canada established the 3M Teaching Fellowships to reward exceptional contributions to teaching and learning at Canadian universities. Nominating a deserving Faculty/Department member is strongly encouraged. The deadline for receipt of nominations to the Office of the Vice-Provost (Academic Programs and Students) is August 17, 2012. The deadline for receipt of nominations to STLHE is August 31, 2012.

6th Annual Conference on the Political Economy of International Organizations - Call for Papers

Submissions are invited for the 6th Annual Conference on the Political Economy of International Organizations, to be held at the Universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg, Germany, on February 7-9, 2013. The conference brings together economists, political scientists and other scholars to address political-economy issues related to international organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the European Union, and also other international organizations that have received less attention in the academic literature. Both empirical and theoretical papers will be considered. The submission deadline is September 30, 2012.

NBER Universities' Research Conference - Call for Papers

The National Bureau of Economic Research will hold a Universities' Research Conference on Poverty, Inequality, and Social Policy, May 10-11, 2013 in Cambridge, MA. Priority will be given to empirical research or theoretical work with empirical applications. Submissions from researchers early in their careers and from non-NBER affiliates is also encouraged. The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2012.
