Professor Emeritus Edward Saraydar (1925-2012)

Ed Saraydar

The Celebration of Ed Saraydar’s Life will take place on Saturday, February 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Library of the Sir Adam Beck Condos, 250 Sydenham St., London. Please RSVP via email by January 25th, if you plan to attend.

The flag will be lowered at Western at 2:00 p.m. on February 2nd.

Fire Drill

A fire drill for the Faculty of Social Science will occur on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm. Staff evacuation is required.

Indigenous Community Engagement Strategy

Gathering Our Voices is part of Western's new Indigenous Community Engagement Strategy. Those interested in contributing to indigenous engagement at Western may wish to attend the Indigenous Talking Circles Series to be held Thursday, January 24th and Friday, January 25th. Please RSVP to register and obtain address and room location.

Alan Blizzard Award - Call for Nominations

The Alan Blizzard Award was developed in 1999 by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) to stimulate and reward collaboration in teaching, and to encourage and disseminate the scholarship of teaching. The award is given to collaborative projects that increase the effectiveness of student learning and is open to groups of two or more individuals, at least one of whom must be currently teaching at a Canadian university, regardless of discipline or level of appointment. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2013.

Alumni Awards of Merit 2013 - Call for Nominations

Nominate an outstanding Western alumna or alumnus for a prestigious Alumni Award of Merit. Western's Alumni Association offers this annual awards program to recognize alumni who have made outstanding contributions to their professions or communities. The awards will be presented during Homecoming weekend. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 15, 2013.

25th Annual Conference of the European Association of Labour Economists (EALE) - Call for Papers

The Department of Economics "S. Cognetti de Martiis" at the University of Torino, Italy will host the 25th Annual Conference of the European Association of Labour Economists on September 19-21, 2013. The conference will include invited lectures, topic-related invited sessions, parallel sessions and poster sessions. The deadline for submission of papers is February 1, 2013.

Singapore Economic Review Conference (SERC) 2013 - Call for Papers

The Singapore Economic Review (SER) is a leading economics journal in Asia since 1956. The SER invites theoretical and empirical papers on all aspects of economics for the fifth Singapore Economic Review Conference to be held August 6-8, 2013 in Singapore. The submission deadline is March 31, 2013.

Carnegie-Rochester Conference on Public Policy - Call for Proposals

The Carnegie-Rochester Conference on Public Policy seeks papers for their conference, A Century of Money, Banking, and Financial Instability, to be held at Carnegie-Mellon University, November 15-16, 2013. Proposals with a theoretical, empirical, quantitative, or historical emphasis are welcome. The abstract submission deadline is April 15, 3013.

30th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Econometrics Study Group - Call for Papers

The Department of Economics, University of Waterloo will host the 30th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Econometrics Society Group (CESG), October 19-21, 2013. The theme of this conference is estimation and inference with instrumental variables, generalized method of moments and generalized empirical likelihood. The submission deadline is April 30, 2013.

CMCC-ICCG Summer School - Call for Applications and Extended Deadline

The Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Climate Change (CMCC) and the International Center for Climate Governance (ICCG) announce the first Summer School on Climate Change Impacts and Policy in the Mediterranean Basin for postgraduate students, that will take place May 22-24, 2013 on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, Italy. The application deadline has been extended to January 31, 2013.

Please submit a hard copy (pdf copy by email) of all research grant applications (including contracts), internal and external, to Karin for review and subsequent Chair approval/signature prior to electronically submitting your applications.

In addition, completion and electronic submission of a Proposal via ROLA must be filled out be all applicants to obtain institutional approvals for their research grant/contract applications. Please see Karin if  you need assistance.
