Good Friday and Easter Monday

The Department of Economics will be closed on Friday, March 29, 2013. Regular office hours will resume on Monday, April 1, 2013.

Bank of Canada 2013 Governor's Award

Western Economics congratulates Jim MacGee, named as the recipient of the Bank of Canada Governor's Award which recognizes outstanding academics in areas of research critical to the Bank's mandate. The award is granted for a two-year, non-renewable term. (Western News)

Economics Teaching Workshop - RSVP

Bethany White, Teaching Fellow and member of the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences, will lead the next Economics Teaching Workshop, Making Math Matter - The Challenge of Teaching Math-Based Courses to Non-Math Majors, on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in Room 4161 SSC. Faculty from math and math-based subjects will participate in the workshop. Economics faculty Andrés Carvajal, Peter Streufert and Greg Pavlov will be on a panel to discuss their teaching strategies in this regard. Please RSVP if you would like to participate by March 28, 2013.

Women's Caucus Essay Contest - Announcement

The Women’s Caucus 2013 Essay Contest is an award is intended to recognize students whose creativity, scholarship and understanding of issues facing women in society and across cultures demonstrate a strong grasp of feminist theory and practice. Both graduate and undergraduate essays are eligible and a prize will be awarded in each category. Only one essay per student should be submitted. Please encourage students to submit their best work. Use this rave card by attaching it to essays you think may be worthy so that students are alerted. The deadline for submissions is April 30, 2013.


Research Notices

Please submit a hard copy (pdf copy by email) of all research grant applications (including contracts), internal and external, to Karin for review and subsequent Chair approval/signature prior to electronically submitting your applications.

In addition, completion and electronic submission of a Proposal via ROLA must be filled out be all applicants to obtain institutional approvals for their research grant/contract applications. Please see Karin if  you need assistance.
