Introduction

The Western Master of Financial Economics (MFE) is a 16-month program that combines rigorous courses with a professional internship to ensure students are exceptionally well prepared to pursue successful careers in finance

Unlike most graduate degrees in finance, the MFE is an interdisciplinary program that allows students to take selected courses from the Department of Economics, the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences, the Ivey Business School, and the Faculty of Law. Our interdisciplinary approach combined with the practical experience of an internship allows our students to be competitive in a variety of fields including capital markets, private equity, risk management, portfolio management, government, and consulting.

In addition, our program emphasizes the value of professional networking and provides opportunities for students to interact and collaborate with alumni and finance professionals. We host a variety of networking events, including a professional speaker series, and facilitate one-on-one mentorship opportunities with industry professionals.

What We Look For

We seek intellectually curious students with strong quantitative and communication skills who are looking to combine technical and analytical skills with a "big picture" understanding of the relationship between the economy and financial markets. The MFE Program is aimed primarily at students who have recently completed undergraduate degrees in Economics and Finance as well as students with bachelors degrees  in a quantitative discipline (e.g. mathematics, sciences, engineering).
