Economic Policy Research Institute

The Institute and its People

The Economic Policy Research Institute (EPRI) was founded in 2001 with a donation from the RBC Financial Group. It is a joint enterprise of the departments of Economics and Political Science. The Executive Director of the Institute is Jim Davies, from the Department of Economics. Jim MacGee, Chris Robinson, John Whalley and Robert Young serve as Co-Directors.

The goal of the Institute is to foster research at UWO on long-term economic policy issues. It does so through its support for policy-oriented research in the two departments; through seminar series, working papers and conferences; and through outreach to external researchers, policy-makers and the public.

The Institute has five key research areas:

  • Climate and the Economy
  • Money and Finance
  • China and India in the Global Economy
  • Political Economy
  • Human Capital and Labor Markets

These areas are coordinated by Jim Davies (Climate and the Economy), Jim MacGee (Money and Finance), Chris Robinson (Human Capital and Labor Markets), John Whalley (China and India), and Robert Young (Political Economy).

Affiliated with the Institute are the Centre for Research on International Economic Relations (CSIER), interdisciplinary groups that are centred in the Department of Economics, and the Political Economy Research Group (PERG), which is joint between Economics and Political Science. The directors of these groups are John Whalley (CSIER) and Robert Young (PERG).
