Western Economics has built an international research presence in several key research areas. These areas are supported by our Institutes, Centres, and Groups. The Centre for the Study of International Economics (CSIER) is focused on international economic research and supports Western Economics’ internationally acclaimed researchers in international trade, international finance, development economics, and China studies. The Centre for Human Capital and Productivity (CHCP) is home to a world renowned group of empirical researchers working on human capital and productivity from both a labour economics and an industrial organization perspective. Our China Research and Policy Group is an international and interdisciplinary group whose focus is on China and its relationship to the world. This Group has many international ties within China and across the world and welcomes all researchers at Western who are researching issues related to China. This Group oversees several projects including the Western-CIGI-China-Ontario Project – the first Social Science based project supported by the Ontario Research Fund. Finally, the Political Economy Research Group (PERG) is a joint initiative between the Departments of Economics and Political Science and welcomes all researchers at Western who are interested in political economy issues to participate in its activities.
