Get Connected! Networking Opportunities for Alumni and Students

For those of you interested in (re-)connecting with each other or with current Western Economics students, there are two new opportunities – one on Facebook and another on LinkedIn. The primary aim of both networking hubs is to allow alumni and students to interact about exciting career opportunities as they arise, to keep abreast of what is going on at Western (also see the Department’s Facebook page or website), and to exchange ideas and information about current economic events. Of course, many of you may just be interested in finding out where some of your fellow classmates are now and what they are up to.

Current students are also eager to gain new insight into the career possibilities for graduates with a Western Economics degree by looking through the network profiles. With each new alumn that joins, students can learn about a new career path and potential connection that may help inform and enrich their future careers. So, we encourage all of you to at least ‘join’ or ‘link’ to the networks. We also hope that some of you will be interested in providing career advice and guidance for younger alumni or advice for current students on the skills they should be developing while at Western.

Recent 2015 BA Honors graduate (now pursuing a M.Sc. in Economics at University College of London), Pierce Mullin, has set up a new private Facebook Group to serve as a networking hub as a means of communicating with fellow Western Economics alumni and current Western Economics students enrolled in honors programs and double major degrees that include economics. You are invited to join the current Facebook group Western Economics Alumni Networking via Facebook’s search, or by visiting the page through the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1659346514278774/. When requesting to join, please be sure to include your Western degree and year of graduation!

The private LinkedIn network has been set up by the Western Economics Society (WES). You can join this group via the direct link https://www.linkedin.com/grp/home?gid=8386035 or by searching for Western Economics Society Alumni Network on LinkedIn. The group is private (exclusive to Western Economics students and alumni), so a moderator from WES will approve each membership request – please provide your Western degree/year or make sure it is part of your LinkedIn profile before requesting to join. Initial posts must also be approved by a moderator, but responses within a post will be uploaded immediately.

We look forward to seeing all of you on these new and exciting networks and to the free flow of ideas and information they generate!
