Professor Emeritus Edward Saraydar (1925-2012)
It is with deep regret that the Department of Economics announces that Professor Emeritus Ed Saraydar passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. Ed will be sadly missed by his colleagues and his many friends. Ed's career started with serving in the Air Corps of the United States Army, and with the Merchant Marine during the Korean War. He was a communications specialist, or “sparks“ when at sea, being an expert in Morse Code. Under the GI Bill, he attended the University of California at Berkeley. He received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, and his PhD from the University of Rochester. Ed began his career as a professor at Western in 1967 and retired in 1991. He often characterized the Economics Department as being like family to him. We all miss his lively conversation, easy laughter, and loyal support. A celebration of Ed Saraydar’s Life took place on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Library of the Sir Adam Beck Condos.
The flag was lowered at Western at 2:00 p.m. on February 2nd, 2013.
